A Message From the Family

We can’t thank Jeff Bumstead enough for starting this tournament in celebration of Peter! I consider myself truly blessed that there are so many people that love and miss Peter as much as we do. So much, in fact,  that they gather together once a year to celebrate his life.

A life that touched so many people in such a short time. “He brought happiness wherever he went”. That sounds like such an overused sentence but in Peter’s case it is just the plain truth. When he walked in a room everyone was visibly happier. People smiled more, laughed more and definitely told dumb jokes more.  Whether it was arriving at the ball park, the curling club, the hockey arena, choir practice, or even work he was always happy to see everyone. He always felt he needed to entertain. It must have been exhausting; it sure was exhausting to watch. But that was what gave him happiness. You all gave him happiness when you joined in his ‘quest’.

The Peter Robinson Memorial Endowment Fund

When Jeff told me about the tournament he said, isn’t there some kind of fund that you set up that we could add money to if we raise any at the golf tournament? I said yes and told him about the fund I set up at the Huronia Community Foundation.

It’s funny, I was working on their website for a while before Peter passed away and thought… what a great way to remember someone this is. Why have I not heard of it before? Instead of using the money that is donated in memory of a loved one towards a charity or two just once, a family can put that money into a fund and have it invested. Each year the interest earned on the fund is given to a worthy charity. The principal balance stays in the fund so that the family can give money every single year forever….

Little did I know that a couple of weeks later I would be setting up The Peter Robinson Memorial Endowment Fund for just this reason. All the money donated in memory of Peter was put into this fund. By the time it was opened a couple of months after his passing, there was almost $9,000 in it.

So when the First Annual Peter Robinson IPA Golf Tournament was started in 2017 all the money raised was put into his fund. The first year I was able to donate to Hospice Huronia in Peter’s name. Each year at the Annual Golf Tournament, even more was added. This year there will be more money to donate in his name and it will continue forever…..

Thank you for this opportunity to celebrate Peter’s life with so many people whose lives he has touched.
